My mount on honda Schwinn Meridian tricycle

My father used a 1/4 " steel plate,took off the rear basket and mounted this to the frame where the basket was . He then welded the 2 bearing mounts to two small 1/4 steel plates to secure the jack shaft on both ends , he positioned these properly on the mounting plate then bolted them down to allow for chain adjustment.He then cut a hole through the steel plate for the 2nd chain to go from the jack shaft to the final 60 tooth axle gear to turn the wheels.
Here is a rundown of the hookup.
From (clutch) drive gear 11 teeth to jack shaft gear 18 teeth , from other jack shaft gear 13 teeth through the mounting plate to the 60 tooth gear on the axle to turn the 26" wheels.
Motor = Honda 50cc
RPM min=2000
RPM max = 7000
Can anybody from this info tell me the min and max speed of he tricycle?
I will attach pictures to this soon just gotta find my camera.This is going to be sweet.Hope it works as good as it looks.

Well I just gotta find somene who can figure out the MPH with the gearing you have listed above.Maybe someone will stumble across this thread and post the answer.Keeping my fingers crossed.(LOL)
 
Mike, rechecked with a clear head. The ratio you want to use gives you 6.04:1. it wont work well. @ 7000 RPM, will propel bike at 89.6 MPH. (right until the clutch melts) If you swap the second 18 toothed sprocket for another 48, it would give you a ratio of 16.11:1 and a top speed of 33.6 MPH. (25.2@5250 RPM) But I am told 16 to 1 is not high enough. Try playing with that link I gave you. Works wonders on working this stuff. I am just learning it my self.

As you have it currently set-up with the 11t to 18t to 13t to 48t you will never get the thing going/started. You would have to pedal the rig up to 30mph for the motor & clutch to engage properly. You want to get the total reduction into the 20:1 area right now you are at 6:1. here are the mph for your current set-up: 30mph @ 2300 rpm, 38.4 mph @ 3000 rpm, 92.2 mph @ 7200 rpm

i asked a similar question about a lifan. i came up with 120mph. someone said the engine internally had a 4/1 ratio. making my speed around 30mph.

Stude, if I got you correctly. I think the internal ratio is not important to the equation as the final out put of the drive shaft. The shaft RPM is where you need to start In my humble opinion. A Honda 50cc GX turns much faster then a china girl.

Just saying. Not meaning to be contrary.
 
What you really need is a 5:1 gear reduction/clutch. Match the drive sprocket here with the first jackshaft sprocket(10t/10t11t/11t, 18t/18t,etc.) Then using the original 13t/48t you get this:

13t/48t-29.3 mph@ 7000rpm

Change that second jackshaft sprocket for

12t/48t-27.1 mph @ "

11t/48t-24.8 mph@ "

10t/48t-22.6 mph @ "

IMO, 29.3 mph is very fast for a trike and especially dangerous on turns. Ya might want to try it, then experiment with smaller jackshaft sprockets. Have your dad fabricate a chain tensioner so you don't have to shorten the chain when you swap sprockets around.

You will need a Staton adaptor to mate the Honda 50 engine to 76mm clutch to use the 5:1 gearbox, so the engine might need to be shifted side-to-side an inch or so.

Just for reference,my trike (FWD TITAN) is geared way too high. It's 10 tooth to 10 tooth jackshaft to 10 tooth drive sprocket to 28 tooth wheel and the wheel is a 20 inch so it has GREAT top end but you need to pedal it to go on the hills. I think I have a solution will share later but anyway for every one rotation of my wheel my engine sprocket turns 3 and 3/4 turns. Then add to it that this is driven off a gearbox with a 5 to 1 ratio so to even get there that sprocket needs to turn 5 times that amount and it STILL may be too tall.
What you may need is a 5 to 1 gearbox. Check out the Titan setup. The centrifical clutch is inside the gearbox.

HEY! Heaven just said essentially the same thing!!

On Cronus my other bike,it has a 48 tooth and that engine sprocket turns 5 times for every one turn of the wheel. This is low gearing but just perfect for me.

If you don't have a 5 to 1 gearbox you would want your engine sprocket to rotate 20 to 25 times for every ONE revolution of your wheel.

You'll need that gearbox.

With the 5 to 1 box and no other changes it would be geared quite low. But that may be a good thing.
 
Hey guy I'd like to know where'd ya get the calculator to figure out MPH with so many teeth on the jackshaft gear.So you got 29 MPH ah? on a 48 tooth gear .What's the MPH for a 11-18-13-60 with 26' wheels.Tell me these things.

This one is going to be 67cc Dax. And jack shaft kit. But the other one will be Honda GXH 50? 160? 750/4 rotfl

Thanks Mike! All the mods on the 2stroke are going to be a lot of work. I am going to go with a 4 stroke setup on the back on this one. All ways build a 2 stroker later. I just hope the rear part of the frame is as strong as it looks! Grainger has lots of goodys also!

Thanks a million SaddleTramp, for teling me about grainger I looked'em up on the web and pops said heck I should of thought of them I've ordered to many parts from them while I was a formen at Great Lakes Steel in the mobile equipment shop.He said it looks like I'll have to order some parts and or gears from them because this honda motor is just to fast in the RPM range,got to gear it down,big time.
