Motorising kids pedal car?

I have a HS 49 cc kit sitting around and I'm probably not going to put it in a bike.I also used to mess with Radio control cars and reckon getting a pedal
car/kart and putting the 49cc motor on it with radio control wound be awesome.Ive had a look on the net and cant find anything similar,so I'm guessing no-ones done it yet.

The motor should make a little car fly,and freak out on lookers at such a large rc with a throaty note giving it zing up the street. If anyone has seen something similar or wants to comment go ahead. The project will be a way off as I'm pretty much broke and wont do it until i can get an old pedal car for next to nothing.

should be fun :)

This is the sort of kart thing i'm looking at,it would be the easiest as its already chain drive, wouldn't look as cool as one with a car body though.

These ones (below) are super cool but hardly and of them are chain drive, and they cost bucks.

Interesting thought anyway.

Just weld on an engine mount, connect up a chain, fit a couple of servos and your away.

Funny you should ask.
I was at a hobby shop just a couple of days ago and they had what they called a 1/4 scale R/C car. It was big enough for a small child to ride but it wasn't designed for riders. It was over 3 foot long, close to 2 foot wide and the body was styled after a European road racing machine. It used a big, very big, 4 stroke model airplane engine, centrifugal clutch and they said it would do over 30mph. I didn't even ask the price but I offered to race it with one of my bikes. :)
I can see no reason why your idea wouldn't work. If you do it, please keep us informed. Might start a whole new trend. Giant scale R/C car racing.

I've built several scale model cars for my grandkids and always thought it would be cool if they could just hang on while I control the vehicle. Made the mistake of mentioning it to my wife and she threatened me. I guess it would go faster without a rider but would be more fun scaring the kids.

Msrfan, I suspect that idea of yours might be safer than what my dad used to do with the car and sleds when the city streets had snow covering. Get a tow rope and if things get crazy just jump off? That is what the fail safe was.

Nice link maniac, some of them look a bit out there.

i,ve seen some cool 1/4 scale cars but the prices on some of them things
is a joke.I'm hoping to make this thing for under $100 out of junk, just for
a bit of fun.hopefully i can source a cheap pedal car or find one somewhere.
i'll make a build thread on here if i do.watch this space....

Take a look at some of the power wheels cars people have built. I have seen a gas powered power wheels jeep!

Those gravity racer cars, using hand truck based frames, caught my interest a while back. Alas, I live in Houston so the mountains are over 400 miles away. I have been tempted to motorize one of those German chain drive kettcars.

If you go with a kettcar, I tink the kettquad would be a good frame to work with. https://www.google.com/search?q=mot...38,d.aWc&fp=af16fa0078da41a1&biw=1536&bih=742
