Minor issue with chain clearance after changing sprocket to smaller size

So I recently went from a 36T down to a 32T so my cruiser would be slightly easier to pedal and get a bit more top speed out of it. But now where the top and bottom of the chain pass over each other at the spring chain tensioner has barely half and inch of clearance. The chain is practically rubbing. It's VERY close, a bit too close for comfort. I can't seem to size the chain a bit smaller or I'm unable to connect the master link. What can I do to fix this? I've tried everything I can think of including adjusting the rear wheel best I can get it. Please help!

I'm willing to bet you've seen this same senario before Venice. Thank you I will try it. I may not get to mess with it until next Friday due to my work schedule, but as soon as I do I will post an update here. I even tried seeing about removing a few links in the chain but noticed if I do I won't even be able to use a half link to connect my chain so that didn't even end up being an option in my situation. But thanks for the helpful tip, I'll keep ya posted.
