Not to be a kill-joy, but any kind of gearbox like that absorbs power to turn by way of friction. The gear teeth sliding in and out (keep it clean now) of each other causes friction. Even bathed in oil, there's still friction. The faster you spin them, the more power they absorb.
Normally it's not enough to worry over, but we are talking about an engine that's rated horsepower is a fraction...not even a whole horsepower. I have no doubt it can be pushed higher than that but in stock form the connecting rods and bearing style would be the first parts to give you trouble.
