Gonna be a Staton rear friction drive with a Robin Subaru 33cc.

I guess this is a stretch cruiser as there is a 6" offset from the seatpost to the crank hanger.

Needs a custom mount too as you can see. Seat stays are too low for the kit mount.

Custom mount done, fits good and plenty strong. 1" x 1/8" thick aluminum angle and 1" x 1/8" aluminum struts. I drilled the frame. Yup I drilled right through the frame of a brand new bike. Just the gausset though, not the tubes -

This is gonna be a sweet ride, I just love the lines of this bike. I bought this to put the "happy time" on, but when I saw how pretty it was, I couldn't bring myself to bolt that China thing on it. Nah, this baby deserves better.

I have to paint the hardware and then it's assembly time.

Dunno. Good idea though, the housing on my motor is bright yellow.

It will be on this weekend, so we shall see.

This is a cool ride. Smooth, quiet, goes as fast as I need. No vibration. If not for the tiny bit of exhaust sound, I could be ridin' an electric -

Doesn't look as cool as happy times, not as much power as happy times, but this is so much better that I am wondering why I even wasted my time...

Nah, not really. I like the OP with the GT4. Especially since it hasn't broken down lately.

Congrats, you did a real nice bit of modding there to make things work. Drilling the gusset, no big deal, heck of a lot better than through a tube.
BTW, cool is relative. I like my bikes to look like bicycles for a number of reasons plus I always felt silly to have a bicycle and pretend it's a hawg or something.

Believe it or not, I have almost as much time in this as the one on the happy time. 3/8 to half inch copper coupler brazed to a 1/2" copper street elbow. Then I drilled out some aluminum tubing to fit between the muffler spigot and the 3/8" copper coupler, slitted it all and secured it with a little hose clamp.

Yes even quieter. Well at least the noise is pointing behind me, so it appears quieter -

I am going to leave the shroud stock yellow. I don't mind the color and it goes well with black.

To that I have added a few inches of black heater hose to knock down even more dbs.
I should say also when I add any length to the muffler port I think it a good idea to remove the spark screen from the muffler.

Interesting about the screen. I have seen these spark arrestor screens before on my chainsaws and weedwackers at the exit of the muffler.

I took the muffler off of the Robin because I had to relieve the heat shield a little so the pipe would slide all the way on. The screen is right at the entrance to the muffler and it is cylindrical all the way through the muffler. It also looks 3D, like it has thickness to it.

I'm not touching it, it looks like it has noise reducing effects. My little pipe is just an elbow and it is way larger than the muffler spigot, so I am not going to worry about it.

This thing is so much quieter than a 2 stroke stock. The little pipe redirector does work good though. When I was standing there and started it, I knew right away because I could hear the internal engine sounds real good.

The screen acts as a half***ed spark arrestor to satisfy .gov regs and are prone to building up with carbon. I pull them on all my engines to free restrictive flow. If they add anything to the muffling of the engine you have a problem so at the very least they should be checked periodically and cleaned. These EHO35s have a real tendency for carbonizing the piston crown. After you get a few hundred miles on it, pull the spark plug sometime and shine a light in the cylinder bore, you'll see what I mean. There is a cure for that but that's another topic.

If you decide to pull the screen, could you post a photo? I'm interested to see where it's at. You're paving the way for me, so be sure to figure out all the hard stuff by Tuesday, OK? (Just kidding)

How do you pull them?

There is only a half inch hole. Do you just rip them with a screwdriver and pull out the pieces with a longnose?

In the parts manual the exhaust looks like a single piece. Not sure how you'd remove the screen without "digging" it out?

The screen is welded to the input of the can, I saw the crosshatch and goes all the way to the back as a continuous cylinder.

It is not something that is meant to be removed easily.

It is not even shown in your pic.

The screen is made to be removed for cleaning by removing the 2 Allen screws that attach the muffler onto the cylinder, carefully back them out. The screen will be obvious and is easily lifted from the muffler.



This was from an engine with under three hours on it, you can see it had already begun to carbon up. Rather than pulling the muffler off time and again, I remove them once.

Must be a design change then, mine does not look like that.

The screen was obvious, it was a continuous cylinder from the entrance port to the back of the can. No way it was coming out easily.

Yeah, well listen, now meaning to alarm here. Maybe take a second look when you get a chance. I have EHO35s purchased from 2007 through 2011 and they all have the same design. The screen sits inside the muffler just where it attaches to the cylinder, and needs to have access for it to be cleaned. As I said before, I leave them out at that point. This may be something some would be more comfortable having a dealer service, I don't know.

Yeah, that's what it looked like, only it appeared to be welded into the case.
