I am building a mongoose motor bike. Do I have to change my derailleur chain for the new jack shaft sprocket.
my thinking is just stuck in 2strokeville lol.. but i've got an eye out for a frame and some kind of old tiller or something and plan on joining the fest sometimeWelcome Beach rider, Kelly is correct for a straight 2 cycle kit motor, but since you don't state what type of MOTOR Four CYCLE OR TWO, and don't provide photos. We're left to guess that you might be planning a shifter kit installation or other design that might include a jack shaft setup. So my answer to your question is could be a chain change, but if it's a straight 2 cycle kit motor you don't have a jack shaft to consider, so then my answer is no you don't have to change the pedal side chain.
Please post photos and explain fully the details your questions involve. We are always willing to help, but it's impossible without clarity of what is involved. Then you get useful help quick. A good photo is worth a thousand words on many questions.

i only know the one kit that i have others probably vary but my kit uses 3 differant chain sizes..it uses the original bicycle 410 from the inner chain ring to the rear wheel cassette. it uses a 415 from the engine sproket to the shaft. Im not entirely certain what size the 3rd chain is it runs from the shaft to the outer chain ring.. it has a 1/2" pitch and very nearly a 3/16" roller width although it may be metric. its definitely inbetween the 410 and 415 size. i dnt know if tha tinfo helps you but its what is running on mine..kellyThank you for writing back. I put a jackshaft on my mongoose bike. The peddle crank free wheel has 2 sprockets, one for the jack shaft and the other for the rear wheel derailleur. The sprocket for the rear wheel is wider the chain slides over. I have a digital micrometer I was going to measure it and compare it. I ordered a z410 chain. Or should I buy a thin sprocket.,
