The type of stand someone makes or uses depends a lot on what they have to work with. If I had ceiling joists or some point of support above my work area, then I might use straps.
Considering I can easily manually lift the bike, I don't need a lifting mechanism - just a support. A cantilevered pipe at an adjustable height is a convenient system. And naturally, using the clamps makes the bike stable. I always did marvel at the way those clamps grip a pipe.
Looks good. It only has to be off the ground Nobody's gonna judge you here Nehmo. I've been thinking about a milk crate cut to fit the frame somehow just for quick repairs and checks.
Heres mine, I bought a bench mounted bike work stand ($35 Ebay) and scrounged up every scrap bit of wood I had and made this, its crude looking but it got me thru my first build and is still going....
