Hi there! another newbie from SoCal, also get my kit from the craigslist guy! (real nice dude by the way!), and I'll start my proyect today! as soon as Target opens 'cause I do not have the bike yet! 
so, I'm going with the Jaguar, good price and I found a good review.
This is my second proyect, mi first one is a homemade-weedeater-friction type, not very strong but very fun to ride, based on the youtube guy instructions (not available anymore, looks like he have the kits for sale now)
