Help, I need an intervention!

Alright, I was checking craigslist and I found this bike for sale. It looks like it would be fun to get it going but I don't know much about 4 stroke engines. The thing is, I already have 2 bikes, what do I need another one for? Still, what a cool frame, that alone has got to be worth the $250 asking price. The ad says "Four stroke custom motorized bike. One of a kind gas tank and modified frame. Top speed 35 mph, no pedaling required to start. Runs but needs some work." Hmmmm, it seems like a super good deal. Will someone please talk me out of this. :)

I like it but I already have 3, can’t really tell much about the engine on my phone. The bike itself is probably worth that as you said.

Buy it, even if it costs a few bucks to get it running, it is worth a lot more. Once running you can sell it and upgrade to what you really want.

A pears to be a 49cc 4 stroke kit, with 4g belt drive reduction, should be easy to get going.........Curt
Is 49cc 4 stroke a decent 4 stroke engine for mounting on bicycles? Would you say it's like low end 4 stroke or a high end 4 stroke? I'm pretty clueless on 4 stroke engines that mount on bicycles?

I'm hoping to go check it out tomorrow, will be checking to make sure the frame has no cracks and the gas tank has no leaks, I really like the frame, even if the engine is shot it's probably still worth $250. I don't see any brakes on it, except maybe a coaster brake, maybe that's all they mean by "needs work". I might have to weld something on the front fork to get a disc brake to work with it, and a new front wheel for disc.

No brainer. Worth it for parts alone - but it looks to have way too much potential to part it out. Personally I'd pull the trigger on this one before someone beats you to it.
Save yourself the bother of welding and opt to fit a Sturmey Archer drum brake up front. If tank has any pin holes, a slosh of tank sealer will soon fix things.

After building a dozen or so motorized bikes I'll state the obvious...no one needs even one yet we want...

Great price especially if frame & tank are solid. Motor is a yawner even if it runs...that frame just begs for a pit bike motor and 4 speed; just saying...my spending your time and money is actually fun!

Yes there a lot of guys running them here on the forum, and with all the help here you should have no problem, 4g is one of the better kits. They even have shift kits for them, but like said parts alone would be good deal ...........Curt

No, sorry, I couldn't get in touch with the guy, then I went on Vacation for 2 weeks. I never got to check it out.
