Hey future friends!

I'm just starting to gather some info before I dive into my first built. Are there any common frames that lend themselves well for a conversion? I was thinking of going with a Schwinn DX frame, and finding an old tank off of a moped, or an early Motorcycle. I'm looking at going over the top, ala Derringer cycles. Something to that effect.

Any input would be warmly received. brnot

Hi J,

Welcome aboard.

The Schwinn 26" bikes with front and rear rim brakes work well for an in-frame ht installation if an extended front motormount is purchased, and provision is made for properly attaching the chain tensioner.

Mine is a Southport. There are a few different models in that class.

Good luck

Welcome aboard.
The Schwinns are good foundations for motorizing. There are many here owned/built by members. As was mentioned the front mount can present some challenges but nothing that can't be overcome with a little ingenuity and imagination.
Spend some reading time here using the Google Custom Search feature and you'll have plenty of good information to start your project.
Have fun, ride safe.

Here are important questions to consider when building for yourself or others:

1) What is the predominant riding terrain?
2) What type of physique does the primary rider have?
3) What will the rider's local laws allow and require them to have?
(Lookup and personally read these laws.)
4) What kind of bike is being motorized?
5) What is the bike to be used for?
6) How much of a budget is to be used for the build?

Seek the answers to these questions in order to get the most out of the bike you're building. We're here to help with any questions you may have. Good luck with your build.
