Have you switched triple tree steering tube

Is it possible to switch a non threaded to threaded steering tube on a triple tree? The original steering tube is held on by a bolt in lower clamp. Can I simply remove this and slip in a threaded steeri g tube off of another fork?? I'm talking safety here..anyone tried it seems some enough.
 
Yes you can. Rst makes replacement "stems" that come in both 1" and 1-1/8" configuration. Last time I swapped one I got it from Niagra Cycles.
 
Yes you can, you just need the appropriate headset to go with it. Threaded steerer tubes are usually threaded on the top 2" of the tube.

Did you use the Rest on a triple tree? Also was the one you bought from Niagara a Rest or another brand..thanks
 
Well thanks for replies guys
On going to need a long steering tune so going to cut a old girls Schwinn
I will post after the carnage.
