Front Forks Steering tube

Hi, has anyone ever cut and lengthened the steering tube. I wish to alter one to fit the frame headstock. Any thoughts please.

Yep space thread less or add threads to a threaded..then cut

Yep done a couple works good. Cut it in the center,find another fork with the same size and cut it to the length you need to add,leaving a 1/8 space for weld. Find a 7/8" od tube to fit inside cross drill a couple rosette weld hole, stick it together. Leave the bottom bearing race on so you don't have trouble fitting it latter,don't have to grind it to much just enough to get the bearing on................Curt

Brilliant I had done a couple of car steering columns but they were solid so just made up over sleeve and pined then welded. I will now go ahead and alter the forks. Thanks all.
