Fresh Install Not Starting

My friend is trying to build me a motorized bicycle. We got everything together and set up, but it seems there is no power.

I will pedal quite vigorously, let go of the clutch and I hear the pistons pop, but it is being done by my own power.

We have disconnected the kill switch and even tried starting with ether. It seems that there is no spark.

The model is a Stinger SD.

I will check that, but I did check for spark and didnt see one, maybe i will recheck spark after sundown to be certain.

adjusted the clutch. It now makes motor sounds, like a motorcycle, as long as a pedal, but the engine does not take over.

Definitely have spark. Tried two plugs, both work. Plug does get wet with fuel.

Pulled it behind a car multiple times with varying speeds for a 3 block distance. Head and plug were slightly warm after but no luck on starting the motor.
I dont know what else to try.

The key way is in the right position and the timing appears correct. if i pull the magnet it wont be right because i fear the key way would then be at 11 o clock which would be wrong. the magnet must be on right as well. These are assumptions, i assume they are correct. please advise. thanks.

I dont know if this is any kind of helpful:-||

It gets fuel, even drips some from the exhaust. Not matter how far or fast we move it, it does not power up.

Dave says by eyeballing it it would be .025-.035, and on the smaller side of that

I can't believe I haven't seen this thread.

Avowed, I have the same exact engine, new never run. I am having the EXACT trouble you are and I have done everything and I mean everything to get it going. I get so mad pedaling all over the place and almost having heart attacks from pedaling.
Mine has the exact symptoms as yours, wet plug, has spark, "kinda" sputters and head gets only warm, but the engine just will not kick in and GO!.

Using the throttle has no effect at all or the choke. It does nothing and is quite frustrating.

I'm going to check the MAG resistance tomorrow and probably order an entire new MAG and CDI to try....

If that doesn't do it then I give up..... I have no idea what it could be.....I feel your pain.

You can have an airleak, i'd the same problem three days ago in a brand new engine too.

I've removed the manifold gasket and instead put some high-temp silicone (thoug it might not get along with gas, i'll put loctite 515 in a few days just in case), and removed the carb and put some high-temp silicone in the neck of the manifold too, and pushed the carb all the way in and adjusted it pretty tight (i'll put an oring too in a few days).

And the bike fired at first try.

Your CDI might also be a little weak, it might not make a spark inside the cyclinder with all the presurized gas. Try gapping the spark plug at 0.025.

I'd done everything too, and that was the solution. (even my clutch was slipping at first too).

Hope it helps.

Next time i'll buy a B&S :P

Sounds like bad magneto or cdi. I've had both bad on brand new engines over the years.
Good Luck,
Big Red.
