Just my opinion. I have a fat tire bike with 4" wide tires but I don't plan to motorize it. The fat tires are great in the soft sand, but they are very heavy. It takes much more power to accelerate those heavy tires and very strong brakes to stop them from cruise speed.
-For commuting, I would limit tire width to 2 inch with a gas motor. Smaller with an e-bike.
