easy fix for Schwinn Cruiser brakes

I bought a used Schwinn Cruiser from a local pawn shop for my project and on you of my daily rides while waiting for the motor kit to arrive I had brake failure . So Question is do I fix the coaster brakes or replace the brakes with hand brakes ? or toughs disc brakes?(?) Thank you for any feedback.
 
I would defiantly recommend adding front brakes, if you could add a front disc even better!

Coaster in the rear with good front brakes is a good thing I say.
