What size roller were you using? I an using a 3.5" knurled roller with a belt reduction with a 99cc HF engine and I havent noticed any inordinate tire wear or tire dust in just under 600 miles on this build.

I think the larger contact area of a large roller dramaticly increases fricton and efficency, I am getting 55-60 miles per 40 oz volume fill up of the peanut tank.
I have to go just a little easy on throttle advance in first gear but can't make it slip at all in second gear.
A chain or belt to the wheel is definatly a more positive and efficent drive though. I like the low maintenance and simplicity of my large roller FD.
