When you have in the future things starting assembling/fabricating it would be nice to have you post some pictures. My Briggs 3.5hp gas I use with 12:1 ratio and 26 inch wheel, with an centrifugal clutch on a 130lbs bike for trail riding. I weight also about 130lbs. It goes good. A lower ratio to 20:1 I had used prior with a worn out 3hp and will be looking to refurbish it.
The diesel engine you have should be interesting seeing the graph for torque developed at range of RPM.
You should probably get good mileage, as I think I always heard diesel has more power per same unit compared to gas.
