Hi, I'm Nick
I have a Specialized Hardrock that's not in "great" condition for the past 8 years. I was replacing the derailer and the idea of an engine sounded cool. So I bought an 80cc engine off amazon for $100 the next hour. I've done my research and confident I can put the kit together in half a day at most (hopefully!). I live in Fort Collins Colorado and it is a very bike friendly community. However, I want to have more fun with my bike! I should have the engine put on by Tuesday and was wondering what you guys recommend to have the engine last longer. I've read through the break-in period and oil/gas ratios are important but what else. Also, what are the top 3 budget-friendly mods to go faster and run better? I'm excited to get this engine on my bike!

Welcome to the forum, the kit recommended oil ratio is a bit too heavy, 24/1 is where most of the experienced builders start. The number one upgrade for me is a "good" expansion chamber exhaust, not the little banana type but a pipe like you see on motocross motorcycles. The best pipe is custom made and taylored to the engine.

My biggest suggestion is get a bicycle computer to monitor your speed, especially when in school zones. You don't want any tickets. Also use helmet mirrors.
