It's a good innovation. If it's made properly.

This also seems to be aimed at those who will buy large quantities and then sell them retail.

I have two of those axles with that 40 tooth sprocket and the quality is pretty bad.
I couldn't sell them with good conscience at any price.

Its easier to buy a rear disk brake hub and drill out a sprocket for it.
