B buhz New Member Aug 2, 2011 #2 a new chain will get longer so yes you need it old chain not so much.only other option is shims on motor mount. ride safe BOB

Pilotgeek New Member Aug 3, 2011 #3 I don't use a chain tensioner/idler. Though I do have the alignment almost perfect between engine and wheel sprockets. I only recommend using no tensioner/idler though if you have horizontal dropouts and a dérailleur to tension the pedal side.
