Can it damage the motor if I ride with a straight pipe? (or my improvised muffler)

I have been riding my motorized bike around with no muffler, just the pipe. Is this dangerous? Also, here is what happened to the muffler and here is my provision. I literally took some soda cans and sliced them in layers, then I put some pipe clamps around it. The whole point was to create back pressure, not muffle the sound.

Other than the noise you can run without a muffler if its jetted right, keep an eye on the plug color to be sure its not too lean. If the engine seems hotter than normal that's a sign of being too lean.

Thanks for the advice.

Not dangerous but needlessly loud and weak. 2-strokes need some exhaust backpressure to run good. Also as said above you'll probably have to riches it up a bit.

"Losing power" and "2 strokes need backpressure" is a myth, for the most part.

Before some genius came up with the expansion chamber, race bikes ran megaphone pipes. Loud as ****, but on a tuned engine, caused no problems.

"Tuned engine" is the key word. A straight pipe, open exhaust, or megaphone, will run much hotter, so you need to tune the whole system to work. It'll run leaner, so jetting, colder plug, retarded timing (which can't really be done with a stock cdi,) and even fuel mixture must be dialed in for maximum effect.

But on a cheap china, motors often blow up no matter what you do to tune them, so the only real negative effect will be annoyingly loud.

I recommend you get a clamp on expansion chamber, made to clamp to your stock muffler pipe. made by bairdco!

Thanks for all the help guys. I am going to order this exhaust pipe to replace the missing one, tell me what you think. http://www.bikeberry.com/bbr-tuning...5pNy4_z6D9Mq9oT0ycRzzGkZsWu6YTBEDXRoC9__w_wcB

That's pretty much a straight pipe that will sound almost like your pop can, but worse. Looks cool though. I'd go stock or get a real expansion chamber.but I could be wrong it will be louder with that pipe. Or a long poo poo pipe, they add a tiny bit of torque and a annoying sound too. Some of the stock pipes must have defective welds or your engine mounts are vibrating too much. I've never had one fail...yet...
Murphy's going to get me now.lol
