Today I received the grade 8 1/4-28 threaded rod (3' of it) and the 1/4-28 Allen nuts from McMaster-Carr, which will allow me to get started on making my own cylinder studs with Allen nuts to secure the studs inside the engine thereby, hopefully, preventing stud pull out. Will start with re-taping the engine case stud holes to 1/4-28 and go from there. I will include some pics once I get the studs made, installed, and the Allen nuts installed.
Actually locking the cylinder studs and Allen nuts in place with thread locking compound will have to wait until the crank bearings, crank shaft, and crankcase halves are are assembled since it looks like one of the Allen nuts might get in the way of inserting one of the Allen bolts that hold the crankcase halves together, but it should be doable.
