Broken exhaust bolt hole

I was trying to attach a new log exhaust onto the block the outside of the bolt hole had broken off. Is there away to repair it? I do have a gt90 kit that I can use to make changes with.

Hello, you will probably not be able to fix that, you will probably need a new cylinder because the tab is pretty much broken completely off...a plain stock cylinder is about 25 bucks ... Make sure you get the right cylinder for your engine or it might not fit the stroke and hit the bottom off the head or not go up as much as needed and lose compression plus the ports need to be in a certain spot... Hope this has helped

I do have the GT90 conversion kit. I'm not how to change it over and if I need to time it and how it's done. Have been looking for instructions to do so

Ok got you... There are threads in this site that will give you a lot of info, I would post it here for you but I'm not sure how, just type in gt90 conversion in the search area... Good luck

Some general advice applicable to all 2 strokes.

There will be an arrow on top of the piston that needs to point forward towards the exhaust port. Don't wanna put that on backwards!

When working with the circlips that keep the wrist pin in the piston wrap a rag around the connecting rod. That way when the clip goes boing it won't be landing in the motor.

There are pins in the ring grooves to locate the ring ends. After a quick smear of 2 stroke oil you can use an ordinary hose clamp for a ring compressor before popping the cylinder on. Just watch out for those locating pins.

Don't forget the base gasket. How many times have I done that?

Something that helps a lot is to support the piston from the bottom with a piece of wood or plastic or whatever you can find. That way it ain't flopping around on the pin while you're trying to get the cylinder over the rings.

Once the cylinder has cleared the rings you can pull the hose clamp out and push it down the rest of the way.

FYI some pistons don't have the arrow, make sure the ring groove pins are to the intake side or rear of the engine. Correct running location is on each side of the intake port.

No timing adjustment needed. You can measure the port locations on each cylinder and compare them, port timing change is best left to the advanced builders.

I broke both sides on mine ..what i did is i super glued both back on for which its just to hold them in place so i can work on it ..i then took a wire coat hanger and cut a piece off of about 5 or 6 inches...i then twisted both ends so each side had a loop in it...then i wrapped it around while forming it to the little area on top of exhaust port until each end of hanger are down each side of cylinder about 1 1/2 to 2 inches snd then put a good steel bolt through the loops of hanger and tightened a nut down forcing the ends off hanger to tighten around the broken and glued pieces...i did it 2 days ago and its still all good... I wish I felt would have thought of that sooner come up with something that worked... Give it a try... Worked for me, don't see why it can't work for you...G.L.
