Has anyone on the forum had experience using a 50cc Moped engine on a bike? I was looking at some Sachs engines and they are much better looking than most Chinese ones.

That would be an excellent choice. You will have to fabricate your own mounts, not a big deal. The chain is the same size on most of them and they have an "automatic" trans.

I'll have to look for some online service manuals for some pre-purchase data. The sachs engines seem to be pretty plentiful on ebay in Europe. If anyone has any other recommendations please let me know.

Recommended engines, but would require some jackshaft or gear reduction, custom mounts.

Thanks for those links technocyclist! I am getting excited about an alternative powersource. That little boxer twin is cool, but pretty wide. And those spark plugs! I saw a video on youtube that inspired me to look up Motomorini. They have quite a selection of nifty 50cc engines.

Any further suggestions are welcome

This is what we run here in Nor Cal and it has to be one of the most durable engines we've played with. We use the 5.8 hp motors and they heve plenty of HP for the streets and on the trails. The engine is a little wide but nothing a wider crank hub couldn't fix.

I have a few youtube videos of our motored bicycles.
