I have a 4 stroke, I recently installed on a Schwinn Legacy everything went together perfect no problems at all, but the pull start is really rough, will pull back on you, before you get the cord fully extended got it started a couple times, when started revved really loud choke made no difference or the idle screw. Would like some suggestions about this problem. Tyvm

Adjust your throttle cable or bracket.
Maybe it’s binding.

Pull start recoils on a new engine seems normal.

Do short pulls on the rope.

Just suggestions.

To far advanced spark timing possibly does that. I though know from mostly 4 stroke Briggs, but maybe 2 stroke CG engine may do same. It can really do a number on your hand. If someone else out there can confirm the engine does basically start turning and fires so soon that the engine turns in reverse for a bit, til your hand or the cord handle meet the recoil housing.

I thought of the wind up spring crank starter on lawn mowers where you then press a button to start. You can't get that same issue with your hand with that type starter. This is not the answer to replace with one like that, just before I knew what was happening when I had that problem, it came to mind.
