12 gauge spokes reasonably priced

i dunno what kind of rims walmart bikes have, but from this forum, the walmart reviews, and from hearing them click and creak as they ride by, the hubs are junk.

it wouldn't be worth the time to just upgrade the spokes, in my opinion.

...if heavier spokes make that big of a difference.

on a motorized bike, they make a big difference. the heavier the better.

So if I upgraded the hub at the same time I replace the spokes it might be worth the endeavor? I was thinking about trying out the DIY hubs from the atomic zombie site.

Check out DT Swiss spokes. There stainless steel straight 12 gauge(as opposed to double butted)spokes are the best and reasonably priced. $15 for a set of 32 with brass nipples.
The trick is calculating the exact length needed for a custom lace up job, most decent bike shops will have catalogs with charts and tables for selecting the correct length spoke compared to Rim/hub diameter.

I just had my deep "V" cross section rims re spoked...
It only cost me $60 bucks and THEY did the work!
(saved me loads of time and trouble)
But if you insist on rolling your own, then the proper package of spokes and nipples is important, as well as a good truing stand and spoke wrenches.
I like to use a dab of blue loctite on each nipple and letting it dry over night before assembly.
i hope it helps
