1 1/8” to 1”

Sooo...

Just how hard is it to fit a modern 1 1/8” threadless fork to a vintage 1960’s Schwinn set up for 1”?

I know there are shims to use a 1" fork in a 1-1/8" frame... but I haven't found a way to use a 1-1/8" fork in a 1" frame yet.

Perhaps I could figure out a way to permanently retro fit the Schwinn’s steerer tube onto the new fork...?

I do have access to a welder & torch (for brazing)

I've heard of people cutting the headtube lengthwise, then they spread the tubing to get it to the diameter they needed, then weld in a piece of metal the full length of the headtube to fill the gap.

That's not such a crazy idea!!
