BUDGET GROM: My Minibike Build

Hey guys. Hope your summers are going well. I figured this is probably the best place to post my new thread. I decided for my next build I'm going to make a street legal minibike, basically a homemade grom. In CT this is possible with a few headaches. I've decided to make my build conform with the state requirements such as lights and horn and whatnot. It's all starting with an 11hp 338cc Gx340 clone that I pulled out of a generator I got for free at the side of the road. I know the engine was running when I took it off because I tested it. I got a lighting coil for it that goes inside the flywheel and will generate 12v/2A which will be enough for a small battery to stay charged. I'm going to be using only LED lights so it will be low draw. I'm purchasing a 34mm mikuni style carb today and getting a header for it soon. Power will be delivered through a cvt to a #40 chain and sprocket set. I'm going to buy a roller frame for it that's more or less ready to motorize. I'll convert the brakes to hydraulic. This is gonna be fun

Found out yesterday that the stock flywheel does NOT fit around a lighting coil. I guess I should've figured that. The electric start flywheel is the one that fits because you would need to charge a starter battery! I ordered the flywheel yesterday afternoon. The holes to mount the coils were not drilled or tapped since it is a gx clone and they wanted to save money. I purchased some stainless 1/4-20 bolts from my local true value, drilled, tapped, and got the coils mounted. More to come!

Big news guys! I found the exact minibike I was looking for on FB marketplace to throw this engine into. Guy said it's barely used. The mega moto roller frame is normally about $400 and with the 80cc 4 stroke engine it's more like $560-$600. He agreed to sell it for $250. I'm happy because I need the frame for this build and now I have an 80cc motor to build another motorized bicycle with! Ahh the sweet smell of bike addiction lol. I'll post pics of the new purchase tonight once I'm home with it!
