Hi all! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted here. I wanted to share my most recent vehicle purchase. I was browsing Facebook marketplace and my lovely wife Katy indulged me on an early Christmas present.
This is the Mototec V2 minibike. The reason I’m posting here is that by Connecticut law, this is considered a motor driven cycle. CT requires a street legal 2 wheeler to be 50cc or less and with a seat height of 26” or more at the lowest part of the top of the seat. This bike has a 49cc 2 stroke engine and the seat is 28” from the ground.
Stock features included a single rear cable disc brake, a gear reduction box with chain final drive, a purpose built gas tank, lever throttle, bmx pegs for the foot rest, a bmx style frame with cables routed through the top tube, a gas front fork, and 6.5” pocket bike wheels. I only spent $200 picking up this barely used 2026 bike.
I’m just shy of 200lbs and impressively this tiny thing is able to get me up to 28mph on flat ground, 25mph cruising average, and 20mph up hills. Being a bike guy and a hydrocarbon addict I couldn’t leave well enough alone and decided mods were necessary.
Mods/items purchased include:
- purple locking grips
-4K action cam
- rechargeable headlight and tail light
- converting the brake from cable to hydraulic
- changed spark plug from Torch to NGK
- cut/filled/sanded engine cover to accommodate upcoming expansion chamber
-Installed 15mm carb with velocity stack and pod filter. I wanted this carb because unlike the factory one, the one I purchased has adjustable H and L mixture screws which will make tuning to the new pipe much easier
Parts I’m still waiting for:
-Jetpro blaze pipe. Made to order in Washington state
-Goped fuel tanks. I’m replacing the factory 1.1l tank with dual 1.5l tanks for extended range
- purple seat
- DDM billet pull start handle in purple
- red spark plug cap
-vintage Mello Yello bar pad
-cnc kill button
The pipe is what I’m most excited about though. Jetpro has been hand building their pipes for decades and is known mostly for their contributions to the RC and goped world. They make a pipe that works on 44-5 Chinese 49cc 2 strokes, and as someone who consistently takes modding too far, it seemed like a natural choice to grab one.
