4 stroke 49cc kit - which one? So many look alike - new member and new to motorized bikes

I have recently learned about motorized bikes. I thought they went away with the Whizzer I see on American pickers, but no! So my question. I want 4 stroke for various reasons.

Now, which 50cc kit? I look on Ebay they all look alike except for price. Looks like the same motor and whatnot. Is there any material difference in the kit for 170 and kits for substantially more?

I am good mechanically, with metalwork and fabrication so the kit should be no issue, but I want to study on this before I spend good money. Thanks in advance.

I think the biggest difference among 4t 50cc kits is the transmission. Avoid the Hoot gearbox. Others will hopefully chime in to narrow it down further for you.

I've not seen a brand name noted but here is what I have seen mentioned far as trans goes -- single chain, double chain and belt drive trans - since I am totally new in this which is recommended or seems most favoured?

The Hoot box was single chain. Very prone to failure.
The problem with some of the belt drives is usually in the idler bearing.

So of the 3 versions the double chain is most reliable overall then?

The better ones are 4G or 7G belt drive as far as i know...........Curt

I had much more success with the belt drive, never tried the double chain. If the single chain is referring to the small, "pocket bike" transmission I am strongly against. For the first question, it's a "knock-off" engine, but I had 2 and encountered no problems with the motor itself.
