yo, working on the same gig man. actually just popped in to write up a new post. theres not much a bout building your own brake lever to brake light on the web, if there is its pretty difficult and seems unreliable. you can purchase one from a kit for an e bike but i havent figured out how to wire it to a 12 v -- for my set up. anyway, i was thinking of getting this kit, then sorta reverse engineering it, and building my own - higher quality, better lighting of course. But this kit shows the very basic idea of the brake cable to brake light. Ill keep you posted on my electrical adventure

There has been discussions on this in the past. Some use a micro switch off like a garden tractor/lawn tractor, mounted on the bear brake cable. With something to activate the switch, when you hit the brakes. ........Curt

Here's a possibility;

https://www.ebay.com/i/282622160067...MIkL2rwuvE5wIVEcZkCh0CkQ-vEAQYBCABEgIzq_D_BwE

Lots of motorcycles have a switch on the front brake lever. How they might jive with a bicycle brake cable could be problematic tho.

Also, have ya got a multimeter? Some way of checking for continuity? Once you get your switches you'll need to figure out what wires get connected to what when you hit the switch.

Go to amazon, they have a set of brake levers with built in switches, they’re made for e bikes to kill the electric motor when you brake but they can be repourpoised as brake light switches.

I go wireless every opportunity. Current build uses an XLITE 100 inertia brake light. The simple act of braking powers-up the brake light.
I appreciate some guys have a wiring fetish. Not me.

Close Tom. Mine's the round version shown in the attached pics. Comes with screw-on holder and a USB charging lead. Features fast pulse, slow pulse, steady glow tail light functions, all with inertia brake.
Incidentally, that cable shown in the pic of the brake light installed on my bike is not a cable to the lamp. It's the cable to the bike's eHub motor.

eBay Tom. I just checked and there are umpteen xlite 100 tail/brake lamps on there. Available with a couple of alternative mounts, such as the screw-on elasticated rubber mount intended to fit round a seat tube, Iike the one I purchased above. The other mount is a plastic bracket that clamps direct to the two bar frame under a saddle.

Thanks Pete, I was looking at the Amazon offerings. All two, the seat post mount and the seat frame mount.
I finally added a handle bar mounted rear view mirror a week ago.
I used to trust drivers to mind slower moving vehicles. But unless riding my 1953 Ford Jubilee tractor with large triangular warning sign and flashing yellow fender light, not so much.

Tom, couldn't help noticing that eBay prices for the XLITE brake lamp are much better than Amazon's. There's even quite a variation in pricing amongst these lamps on eBay. As is most often the case, China seller I purchased mine from was most competitive and offered free shipping.

Old guys and old tractors, eh? Perfect combo. Back in remote Netherton where I used to live, we had a bunch of local farmers who would religiously arrive for their Sunday morning pint at village's Star Inn pub on their vintage tractors. For a supposedly informal pub session, the rivalry could get pretty intense. Some of those tractors were valuable assets. There was a time when I seriously coveted a Fowler Field Marshall. Starting one of those using a shotgun cartridge, hammer and smouldering rag was one of life's memorable experiences.

Mark, a pal of mine in the village who was a Northumberland National Park ranger, owned a little grey Fergie that I painted, occasionally helped maintain and drove. It's small size and weight was handy for hauling loads of quarried stone to remote areas in the Park without chewing-up the scenery, where ancient stone drover pathways were being restored by NP volunteers.
