Other uses for bicycle motors?

Has anyone here had experience with using these motors to operate machinery or perform other duties besides powering a bike. I am currently looking for a pump that can be driven to pump out my basement during a power outage when the electric sump pump will not be running.

To me you would be better off with a small compleate pump from Harber freight or Northerntool. Think it would be more elfishent and compact..........Curt

As Curtisfox stated, a better deal is to buy a pump at HF or NT. For awhile I had a pump from HF with the Predator engine, it would run day and night, I would only shut it down to change the oil.

There's no forced air cooling so any stationary use would result in an overheating engine and failure. Plus the output shaft is 4:1 ratio so it's turning about 1000 rpm at speed. Not any practical use unless you can engineer around these two big limitations.

Walmart has this, It's 2 cycle so you have that familiar smell. It appears to be the really hard to find 33cc motoped engine driving this pump. pretty cute and not much more expensive than a bike engine kit.
