Looking through these pics just gave me an awesome idea. Installing the front wheel the way you did puts the brake arm on the right side of the fork, and makes the cable easier to work with. I'm going to do the same when I take my front wheel off to service my drum. Might give me better pull. Thanks.
 
Well... in this case it was innovation not so much necessity. How about this, "innovation is the father if invention"?
