Time to mess with the jet. So I took my bike to a flat section of road behind a marina in San Diego. The area around my house is too hilly to test changes in performance. I rode my bike to gauge where I was at. It would accelerate fine but not very smoothly and then hit a sweet spot…..game on. I went back to the truck got messy with gas changing the jet to a #68. Wow…I hit that sweet spot way earlier than before. I dropped to #66 and have left it there for now. Far less pup pup pup and better torque!
I will follow the advice of several of the more tenured riders and get a drill set to fine tune further. All I can say is don’t be apprehensive to tackle this job. Super easy and what a difference. I also put my needle clip in the middle because I’m in a hilly area and I’ve heard a little richer is better. I will do the plug test soon to see where I’m at but it feels pretty good for now…touch wood ;)
P.S I put a muffler on the SBP X chamber (from SBP) and it makes it a little more stealthy! More engine noise than anything (at idle anyway).

Tune it for best power, then back it off one size for safety and oiling.
Jetting for top power is dangerous without constant attention to the top end so be sure you have some margin.

Not sure I understand Maniac57. This is what I want.....Low end power with little / limited 4 stroking and poppy noise. I would like smooth acceleration. I'm not interested in hitting top speeds. Suggestions?

Tune it for your best power, then back off a bit for better oiling and richer mixture, which tends to prolong engine life.
Running right at max power jetting tends to be harder on parts and takes more attention to plug chops and such.
For normal riding, just keep going till you're happy and if you're not sure how far lean you are, back off a size. Check the plug for a few days to be sure, then ride it!

Ok, new to this.
I’m going off feel at this point. My engine is not smoking, running smoother, #3rd notch on the needle. I’ve not pulled the plug yet to look at color (tan is the zone?). Is that the true measure of safe range? It does pull me along…wish I could change gears!
Thanks!

I was told a number of years back by a carb professional that the alcohol in our Kalifornia fuel will leave plugs more black than the tan which people looked for, for many years.

and I'd get a 2nd opinion on that! :)

...also would be good to know which oil, and ratio you are using... but it does sound like you're on the right track for the process.

You are right. I have a boat in CA and that is an issue for sure. I'm using oil at 32:1 I believe. I'm pretty happy at this point,we will see.
Just saying that folks should think about looking at their jet. I was happy just to be running along but what a change a small part makes!
