finished my second build of a genesis astra 29'er. I went with this bike because it's got 7 gears and front and rear V brakes. I went through the first pads in about an hour. bought supposedly "good" pads and they work better but still not great - they make an awful amount of noise and just dont brake like they should.

does anyone make decent motor bicycle brake pads ???

I may have to try to go to disks. anyone know where I can get a disk setup relatively cheap ?

cheers

yep, toe-in usually stops that noise - chinese schwinns all seem the have bad pads now (got three here that are all wearing out fast)

next time I buy from walmart for price, I'll have to add new pads to the total

I agree that good pads (i.e. Kool Stops), clean oil/grease free rims, and a bit of "toe-in" i.e. 0.5 mm) should do it. Further improvements can often be gained with the addition of good sturdy lever/lever-holders (preferably aluminum) and higher quality brake cables and housings.

This, imo, will often give you near disc brake stopping ability (and I'm a very big fan of disc brakes).
