I'll PM you later today with the ref:#.

I'm bailing on this one. I checked the reg. # with DVLA and it's come back as "not listed". Due to the fact it's a 1970's # and I suspect the bike is quite a bit older than that and NO chance of an "owners club" date service - that's me.

The seller now talking £500 as a buy it now - that's £200 'ish more than I was going to bid and probably £400 more than it's worth ! He says he'll let the auction run.

On the bright side my pal in France [ we think it's French or Belgian ] says he's seen quite a few like this around his village [ maybe the same ] and they are around the 150 euros mark - a bit more like it.


The rear m/g / enclosure looks remarkably familiar for some reason.

Thanx for the headsup - I'm suspecting it's French model the seller has found some castings and text in French.

Also the reg is 1970, again suspecting it came into the UK on that date.

Either way, as stated I've dropped out of the bidding.

I'll get my pal to keep his eyes for the French versions, which he says are plentiful [ where he is ].

I'll forward the pix to him that you posted - you never know.

I was fairly certain to start with it was some sort of Raleigh, it's that saggy knicker elastic suspension they used for a while that was the indicator. The continentals got springs and damping, the British went for biodegradable rubber bands and then wondered why there weren't herds of buyers stampeding in the cycle shops.

Due to kreeping arthritis - a sidecar certainly looks on the cards in the next few years - so almost certainly Cafe Creme will be getting a 3rd. wheel.

Chair has to be in keeping with the period and I've seen a few that would do the job. I managed to get Brooklands Meteor chassis for silly cheap last week, and I'm just looking for a suitable body. Would love a Stoye 2 or a Meteor, but they are out of my reach financially.

This little gem turned up - early Garrard S90.

Just lose the door aperture, maybe bring the rear deck forward a bit and a Brookland screen - possibilites.

Hi Ludwig - correct. It's the Indespension unit [ from a Watsonian ????? ] that has been added. It's been very professionally done, no probs there.

However - it WAS the 1/4 eliptical "look" that I was after [ as the Meteor ]

Not sure if I'll use them as a body suspension as originally intended - I can imagine the harmonics of the two suspensions having an interesting impact on any passenger !

Definitely on the lookout for a Meteor body now. If I can't find one at sensible money I may modify a Squire or similar small GRP body.

I'm inclined to think the disparate frequencies will actually do a lot to damp out the boinginess you'd normally get off either system separately. Experimentation may be required. What rating is the Indespension unit? That makes a difference. Have you ever had an unladen trailer nearly vertical in your rear view mirror? It rather has one's attention.
