24 inch tire

I have a 24 in tire and am going to get pirate cycles adapter and 40t sprocket. Is that a good ratio with a 24 in tire?

40T with 24 is basically like 44T with a 26. It's a decent all-around ratio, but don't expect to cruise at 30+ with it. 20-25MPH should cruise nice tho.

with a 24, it'll rev up faster. less rolling resistance. if you're a lightweight rider, you can go smaller on the sprocket. a 36 would work nicely.

depends on if you want top speed or faster starts.

I run a 42t rear sprocket with a 24" rear tire and it just flies! Pretty good take-offs and tops out around 56mph.....

.wee.

Damn scotto, what kinda engine you got in that thing,a deisel?

I have the same question as the OP.

I have a huasheng 49cc with the 80/10 4G transmission. What's the smallest I could go on the sprocket with 24 inch wheels?

I don't care too much about take-offs. I've been riding single speed bmxers for 20+ years. My latest has a 52t chainring with a 16t rear sprocket. I can top it out around 40mph and I take off from a dead stop sitting down. If you ride wiithout a motor then you should be able to appreciate that.

He has a Pred 212 and AGK tranny, has nothing to do with the OP's setup

40T gets you ~31.5MPH @ 7K, 36T gets you 35, 32T gets you to almost 40. I recommend a 36T.

Why are you recommending the 36t? Is that ratio(14.4:1) all this motor can handle? I can switch up the pedal side to help with takeoffs and hills.

Because with the HP you have, having the HP peak come at 35MPH is ideal. With a 32T, the engine would be lugging below 20MPH. Your clutch wouldn't fully engage until ~15MPH. I think a 32T is too small - you'd have poor low-speed characteristics on engine power and very little hill-climbing power. Besides, the engine is capable of revving to 8K without problems. With a 36T, 8K is 40MPH. With a 32T that's 45MPH and you'd never make it there unless you went downhill or had a great tailwind.

Your 4:1 with a 36T would be the same ratio as my shifter 4G in 3rd gear, it's a perfect cruising ratio, IMO. But get the sprocket you want.

I'm taking your advice and getting the 36. Is 15:1 the best top speed ratio?

But....what if I get a 100T freewheel pulley and a 30T?

15:1 is a good all-around ratio, but it probably won't net you the highest top speed.
However, it will give you an easy 20-30MPH cruise and climb hills better than 4:1 36T

You don't want to gear the thing too high or you're just gonna lug the engine at lower speeds.
It's tough to find the perfect medium with a single-speed drivetrain when you desire a high top speed.

I'm going to try a 44T or 40T for now. Maybe if somebody gets the new freewheel hub for the 4G I will try that with a 100T/30T setup.

Thanks for all the info, I went ahead and got a 40t with a pirate cycles adapter. Lets see what that does.

An AGK tranny? Better have another look.......

I had meant to say "AGK style" but forgot to type "style" lol

That my friend is an original scotto-matic tranny......don't mistake it for those cheap imitations on the market :D The only thing AGK about it is the 26t sprocket and the 5/8" adapter it's bolted to. Scotto-matic*......smooth as glass!
