Everyone be careful when you are turning left. Make sure there isn't a car passing you. Yesterday, I was riding along on one of my back roads when I saw a mini-van coming up in my mirror. I was about to the place where I could turn left and be out of there way. About the time I went to turn left this cell-phone talking ,late for soccor practice, speed demon mini-van was passing me on my left about 50mph. So, everyone be careful when to ride. Things could turn deadly quick when your out on the road with these idiots! Get some type of mirrors that you can see with. If you can see with them they are probably not going to be the coolest mirrors, but we need them. ok, later!

I've been needing a mirror. I drive down pretty busy and fast roads. When I do ride to work, I'm plan a looping route so that I won't have to slide from the far right to the left turning lane on a road where the speed limit is 65mph. I'm glad that you didn't get worse. The best thing that we all can do is drive like they're out to kill us.

I use a mirror clipped on my glasses. You can see everything behind you. I have used them for lots of years and they have saved my but several times.

If I make a left turm there are no cars behind me for at least a block, if there are cars I stop by the curb to waite till they pass or go to the corner and cross there when its a green light or safe. Ya cant trust a car just too many distracted drives.

I was crossing the street once, and I had the light however, this lady was turning right and she was mad becuase by law, she had to wait. I was looking at her wondering what her problem was, when her face went from anger to amazment when she noticed my Vector Girvin front fork-she couldn't take her eyes off of them... it was kind of funny.:):):):)

Toke,
This happened to me not even 30 minutes ago....not the same speed that occurred to you but all the same just as harrowing....I'm fully illuminated with not one but TWO tail lights...one constant blink and one continuous in a well lit intersection in my town.....in the left lane making my left turn this motherf*#ker blows by me and actually cuts off the car that was in the left turn lane crossroad....I bounced over the curb ( thank God for front shocks )....onto the sidewalk....no crash but a sense of preservation......I've never heard so many horns going off !....
Tokie you're so right to ask us to pay attention.....I thank you !

Thanks,

It is VERY important on these bikes to NOT zip around without being totally aware of your surroundings.

Always look over your shoulder when in any sort of traffic. Mirrors are great, but when it really counts...look over your shoulder before making the move...And don't cut it close! If someone hits the accelerator out of frustration, they will be right on top of you quick! It's nice to think that we have just as much right to the road as anyone; but that thought is meaningless if you get smacked by a car.

The public sees a bicycle...the brain sees a bicycle...the brain processes bicycle...the fact that we have a motor does not compute until the near collision. Then THEY become irritated with you for operating something that differs from what the brain has processed.

I went for a long ride on Clearwater beach the other day...The speed limit is 30 and I can easily maneuver through traffic. On the beach people expect to encounter funky vehicles, so it's actually fairly safe to ride.

Yes totally...And that driver should be reported to the FHP. You could have been killed!

Guys if you can get the license plate# the cops will follow-up. I know things happen way too fast, and it's rarely posssible to get the plate#, but if you do...they will follow-up.

In addition to the Big Mac and phone...the driver may have been drunk.

yea mirrors are really important because out bikes are too loud for most of us to hear cars behind us, i was scootin along the other day and a huge fedex truck passed me while i was in the middle of my lane, meaning there was only about two feet away from the thing. i felt like i was losing a race with a house

Here in Florida MM..( Manic Mechanic ).....yes they DO follow up but I really haven't the resources to snap a pic of said culprit....you know I'm cruising on my bike.....just trying to stay alive at times.....Clearwater and Gainesville are MUCH alike.......the cops basically are very cool pertaining to us bike riders.....all the cops I've spoken with and shown them my bike wholeheartedly endorsed me ....it's sad that there are total miscreants on the road that absolutely just don't give a f*ck about us

Thanks,

Usually people in big trucks suv are maniacs cut everyone off almost got hit by a escalade going down a 40km/h zone the guy was going 50 or 60 down the road also if you guys live around Canada you can go to Canadian Tire and grab a pair of Supercycle mirrors, looks like motorbike ones for 5 dollars each and their quite good for the money.

That's a good idea. The road I take to work, I will not take home. The average spd is 65mph. I really dont' want to try to slide across two lanes to turn left to get home.
