So I bought the kit about two years ago and it's just been sitting around my house. My plan was to just slap it on a frame and use it on the weekends to get around. Now I want to make it faster before I even have it together. Does anyone have any suggestions on first upgrades, I know I want a reed valve cylinder but I don't know which kit or company to buy from.

just put a Mikuni 18mm carb or a Dellorto 19mm and a 23mm intake to make those carbs fit and you will be happy with the performance.

you could match the case with the jug but third port? waste of time, the plating on the jug does not last longer than 1500 miles of use, usually by 500 miles you have to start peddaling like a ***** cause the compression loss from the chrome flaking of the cylinder. 3rd port is a waste for the time spent. Better to get an iron liner jug that may last 1500 miles before an exhaust stud breaks off in the jug anyway, that is what has wiped out a few of my jugs. Been riding one year now and have over 5000 miles on about 3 engines, first one came with bike I got it lasted maybe 2000 miles and 5 jugs then a 2nd engine I built blew up quick, built a 3rd one and been good now for 2500 miles or so and about 3 jugs. a new iron liner jug I bought and had honed lasted me 4 miles. These engines are cheap AF so you have to just keep moving in order to ride. I have a MZ store 30 miles away from me I visit frequently.

if you have a zeda80 engine you are good to go 40mph maybe 45 with 10/36 gearing. I have a heavy frame and weigh 165 and I go 40mph without much issue anymore.

I just use a couple long bits to reach the transfer ports all the rest are regular bits for cutting aluminum, does not take long to port for me it is like 10 minute job start to finish. makes the engine run good under load.

widen the ports at the cylinder side both intake and exhaust, that jug you have is a good jug the ex port needs no porting at the muffler side just at the cylinder you need to widen it. the intake same thing you widen it as much as you can, then blend ith edges so the piston ring wont hang up on any burrs. the transfer ports have a ridge to remove and that is about all you need to do.

horizontal only. you can raise the ex port but only 1mm I usually just widen the ports.

I use my bike daily as transportation and do a 80 mile commute usually 3x a week for the last year. So the radical porting 3rd window stuff is not for me. my bike gets about 80 miles to the gallon do not want it any worse than that.

Seeing how this is going to be my weekend toy, far too noisy for a job where I get up at 5 am during the week, I'm going to make it fast and pretty. I'll post a list of what I need to do to get it into shape when I get home and actually write it up.
