Wrist pin keepers, How to remove?

Hi, Iv taken apart a scrap engine, so I roughly know how it goes, But one thing has me stumped, How do I take out the wrist pin keepers to remove the piston off the crank rod, without ruining them? Alternatively, Where do I buy new ones after removing the now ruined wrist pin keepers? Can I use something else like snap rings?

i just use needle-nose pliers. it's shaped like a "G" so you grab the middle part with the pliers and kinda twist it towards the opening and pull it out.

dunno where to buy new ones, sorry.

Like Baird said, needle nosed pliers or snap ring pliers will compress the "keepers".
You shouldn't damage them if using the right tool. They should be reusable.

Once a long time ago nobody stocked the clips I found these locally.
Here is a part number that matches our motors. There were two styles of clips out there. One style was a real bugger to mess with the other a complete joy. In the case you ruined your clips and they are the more unforgiving style?

Remove the old ones with good fine nosed needle nosed pliers....then stretch them out carefully so when you re-install them they fit tight and face the gap at the bottom of the piston..If the clips are not tight try again until they are tight.
