This was a super fun & relatively cheap project. After getting some inspiration from browsing photos on this site I decided it was time to get rid of the stock reflector on my rear fender and put on some sort of taillight and an old plate.
I used a standard steel housing pick-up taillight & utilized the stock reflector bracket for mounting. I removed the 12v bolt & housing and replaced it with a 1 watt red LED light from the electronics store. I got the light, wiring, black box, on/off switch, battery pack & batteries for $15. The light runs off of 2 AA batteries and is very bright.
I got the 1960 Jersey license plate for $11 and rummaged through the local metal scrap store to find the parts for the bracket. I hid the on/off switch & battery box underneath the license plate and did my best to conceal the wiring which I ran along the rear fender brace. The wiring is still a bit exposed in these photos & needs to be wrapped.
I’m still waiting for a black bracket to finish the project.
