You Might Consider A Cvt Transmission As It Starts At 7:1 Ratio. I Have Two Cvt Bikes And They Work Great. Friction Drives Are Good If Its Dry.

I've been thinking about it too. What I came up with was to use a short chain to drive a pulley. The pulley would then have a belt to another pulley on the back wheel. You could possibly mount the first pulley to the seat tube. Sure, you still have a chain, but it's a very short one which you could completely cover with a chain guard of sorts. I think it would still cut out a lot of noise and vibration.

What I was looking at is a centrifugal clutch that is a pulley. Put a clam shell on the back hub and mount a pulley instead of a chain sprocket. Very simple really. The pulley would have to have a plate on it so it would bolt up the way a sprocket does.
