I'm wondering if anyone has had any success using the fiber sprockets from a bicycle chain derailer to make a chain tensioner for your MB drive chain. I made one this winter, and it seemed to work fine during a bench test. My first real test ride, unfortunately, will be months away up here in Wisc. My main concern would be that it has no real bearing, it's just a metal sleeve turning on a shouldered bolt so I wonder how long it would last at higher speed

I have used the Steel version of the V brake arms and done this. With good success.

It should hold up quite well, as long as you put some real grease in there, and loctite the screws! If you dig in the trash or bargain bin you can probably find some better quality Shimano ceramic bearing pulleys. I got a whole derailleur for $3 so surely you can get some good pulleys for cheap.
I am using a neoprene roller from a go-kart. PM if you want info.
Carmichael and a couple other brands make deluxe bearings with sealed needle bearings in aluminum anodized color pulleys, for about $20 a set. I used to have some and would have them on every bike if I could. They were sweet!
