I'll be honest I didn't take mine apart to clean it.
I put a shot of equal parts oil and gas in the bottom end assembly and rammed the rod up and down for a minute to mix it up. Dump it all out, put fresh shot in. Repeat three or four times. After letting the bottom assembly sit for a bit, I blew it out with an air compressor and checked it with a light. There was a bit of debris in the oil coating the outside of the crank wheel; but that was an easy rag wipe.
(still had to use a new cylinder)
The motor I did this to is running still, I literally just rode it home from work about thirty minutes ago..
