which one is durable and good.
i am thinking of buying friction kit but i need some advice from you guys.

I too have a question: I wrote both these companies asking if an HS-142F, straight shaft/keyed, 5/8" would work with their kits. One company wrote back that "no, you must use a centrifugal clutch, and the other wrote back that he was not familiar with this engine.
So, can any of you friction guys out there answer this?

If you can somehow mount the clutch pack to the 142 it will work. Look at these picts of thatsdax 142 it already has the clutch pack installed. It will work.

Most all friction kits on the market will accept any engine that has the 76-78mm centrifigual clutch.

Thanks Albula vulpes! A key'ed clutch is easy enough to mount on the shaft, I'm just wondering about the clearances between the engine housing and where it bolts to the friction kit. Looks like the engine castings are different between the straight shaft model and the tapered shaft model. I'm going to go for it, may have to do some shimming though.

If you are looking for an inexpensive engine that will mount to most friction drives, here is one.

It is inexpensive and has the 76mm centrifigual clutch. I'm not sure how good the engine is, probably like any other china engine.
