speed holes?

in the instruction manual that came with my kit it was mentioned that putting a hole in the muffler will increase performance a little bit, and make it louder as well.

also i was thinking about putting a couple holes in the plastic intake cover to hopefully improve air flow.

will either of these modifications increase performance, or is it a waste of time?
 
My first muffler came with a hole in it near the top front. It sprayed oil all over everything, my feet and ankles included. I do not recommend it.
 
can you repack the stock mufflers i wonder?

because, if you packed them with R20 super tight so it would be almost straight through it would work great.
