small bevel gear

The bevel gear is busted I've been thru the archives nothing. Looked at Fred C's YouTube stuff but it focused more on splitting the case's to work on the crank. There's a large flathead on the shaft I tried to remove it wouldn't budge and I didn't want to bugger it up. Has anyone removed and replaced one?

A hammer struck impact driver is the tool to remove and tighten that bolt.

Do you have a puller tool?
You might not need one if the gear is badly cracked.

Loosening screw

Then use kit puller to remove gear:

Like this: (This is clutch plate but same tool and process)

Tap center puller screw with hammer as you tighten until it pops off.
TAP, not wail the crap out of!

Be careful not to lose the tiny woodruff key that locks it to the shaft...

the way you are using the locking pliers is a neat idea, i would never of thought of that.

I've used a big heavy duty Flathead screwdriver to lock that gear.

I haven't messed with it, I've got another motor that I'm replacing the top end. I had a kid from a bikeshop tell me that it was a bushing motor. So I bought another motor and put the motor on the shelf. I decided to take a look at it and found the broken bevel gear was making all the noise and the rest of the motor is in good shape. I stopped going to that shop

It works great, just don't overtighten and bend the pins. Nice and secure.
Screwdriver pops off too easy, sometimes leading to things being thrown.
