sla help needed

I can't find that old thread either and I'm pretty sure I started it.

In short it discussed the pros and cons of mounting SLAs on their sides. I had experienced a couple of premature battery failures and was told by an engineer who works for a battery manufacturer that most small SLA type batteries have the plates held in by slots in the top and bottom of the case. If mounted on the side instead of sitting upright severe shock (road bumps) and vibration could allow the plates to come into contact and shorting the battery.

I remounted my lighting batteries so the sat upright and never had the problem again.

Nevertheless some builders have mounted the batteries on their sides and have had no issues. Maybe experimentation will be the only way you'll know what works for you.

Good luck.

The "S" in SLA is "sealed", so yes, arrange them however you like. One of My SLAs sits on its end in my 24V ebike.
