Should I secure my exhaust wrap with metal ties or hose clamps? which one will hold tighter. Can the clamps or ties be removed once the wrap has been on for a certain period of time? Should I soak the wrap before applying it? I have read that wetting it makes it shrink and tighten more when it dries. If that is true, it would definitely be a benefit to me.

I use tie wire. I paint the muffler black when Iam done and you cant see the wire at all. I dont think you should remove whatever you use to hold the wrap.

most colored wraps tell you NOT to wet it first.

i wrap mine up by overlapping one end so i only use a clamp on the other end. if you take the clamps off, it'll unravel.

use superglue on the ends so it doesn't fray.

the kind i have is Thermo-tec. they state not to wet it first.

one thing i forgot to mention, is get some disposable rubber gloves. it's treated fiberglass crap and will get into your skin and itch like crazy.

also, when new, it burns off some of the powdery residue and whatever, and smokes a bit. don't worry about it, it's not on fire...:)
