Remember the number 25.4 Divide millimeters by 25.4 to get inches. Multiply inches by 25.4 to get millimeters. Remember, inches must be converted to decimals. Example.....

1 1/8" = 1.125 inches 1.125 times 25.4 = 28.575 28.575 millimeters

33mm divided by 25.4 = 1.2992125984251968503937007874016 for all intents and purposes 1.3 inches

yeah, if anyone's interested, an imperial lathe (with it's orig imperial gearset) is well able to cut near-enough metric threads - i can't remember the tolerances except to say that no further investment on gearing would be required for pretty much any motorcycle work at all - the 'near enough' tolerances of an imperial lathe/std gearset turn out to be very very close indeed in theory & well and truly close enough for real-world practical purposes...

just in case anyone's thinking of buying an engineer's lathe

heck of a lot of milling ops can be done on the lathe too...

innit .... anyhow....

Whats the Imperial system? Sounds like sumtin to measure the queens boobs with. In American its called S.A.E

Imperial measures - feet, inches, M.P.H. pounds, ounces; ....

Metric measures - grams kilos; millimetres, centimetres, metres

pretty mainstream stuff...

the world went metric a long time ago

The british isles dragged their feet...

The U.S. are still dragging their rear quarters you might say.

Swimming pools are the exception in the states, i have heared...

must be a load of old lathes going cheap around the north east 'states

Main thing to check would be the main head bearing... but i'm a rank amateur thinking used car used bike used lathe ... & all day to fool around
